After coming just two matches from advancing to state last year, the team is changing some of the dynamics and workouts in the hopes of improving the team.

“Well we are going to practice a lot after school just getting acclimated and luckily we are going to have some cooler days so that will help us as well,” head tennis coach Erica Dopson said. “Also work on our double pairs, the combinations, working on closing in at the net, being more aggressive. those are the main things we are working on.”

The coaches are focusing on different elements such as forming the strongest teams and maintaining physical health for the fall season, which is more team based, which will also come into play during the spring season where it’s more individually focused.

“In the fall we’re trying to compete together as a team and hopefully come home as district champions, but in the spring its individual and you go district, regional, state,” senior Camilla Pujol said. “However, it’s just a single player or a double team.”

With the fall season all about the team, strategy plays a bigger role.

“I think in doubles we are just trying to get the three strongest teams that we can that we can and as well as the strongest mix doubles team,” Dopson said. “In singles we are just trying to make sure we have the endurance or stamina to stay out there playing for both matches and being in the best physical shape.”

For Pujol, the fall season is more fulfilling.

“I prefer the fall season because it’s more team tennis,” Pujol said. “I just feel more like a team.”
