Today being Veterans Day, many school districts have a day off. Frisco ISD however, does not. I’m not exactly sure why we don’t, but I believe that taking a day off for our veterans is a respectful move. A day away from school and work could allow people to take time to honor our veterans and keep them in our thoughts.

Although having a day off would be beneficial, we should not let it get in the way of taking time to recognize and praise veterans. There are many different ways in which this can be done, just make sure that you acknowledge this important day. Yes, having a day off would make this perhaps a bit easier but we should not let that change anything. This day is still a day that deserves high respect and honor.

The thing that we need to focus on is if we did have a day off, would we actually take it as an opportunity to respect our veterans? I do think that having a day off would help this day, but I understand why we don’t. In reality, most people would not spend the day with veterans in their thoughts. To be honest, I probably wouldn’t give it much thought either.

With all the controversy taking place in America right now, some people are finding it difficult to display courtesy to anything American related. Everybody is obviously entitled to their own opinions and views, but I think today is a day that we need to show respect regardless of our current interpretation of America. No matter the situation, these people did fight for our country so the least we can do is take one day to honor them.
