School hosting All-Region orchestra concert Saturday

The All-Region orchestra concert is Saturday at 4 p.m. in the auditorium.

The campus is hosting the Region 24 All-Region orchestra concert starting Saturday at 4 p.m. Region 24 is one of the most competitive regions in all of Texas and 21 Liberty students qualified for a place or an alternate spot, with more than 700 students from all schools auditioning.

“I’m glad I made it this year,” sophomore violinist Ethan Chen said. “The concert is always awesome, so it’s nice to be a part of it.”

The young musicians will be doing anything but resting before the show as there is a three hour rehearsal scheduled for Friday night and at least three more hours of rehearsal Saturday morning before the show.

“I can’t wait until the concert gets here,” freshman violinist Geethika Bonthala said. “It’s a lot of fun to practice at the rehearsals with all the other musicians that made it, and it’s a cool experience for all of us to perform together at the end.”

This concert marks the fourth time that senior violinist Grace Leung has made the All-Region orchestra. In addition to being a four year veteran of All-Region, Leung has made the All-State orchestra four years in a row.

“This year, it’s a bit different because our region changed from last year and we’re now combined with Plano schools, which made the region process much harder,” Leung said. “But once you make it, the actual region orchestra is much more advanced which makes the whole process much more enjoyable. Although the All-Region process is difficult and it takes a lot of work, I feel like playing in the All-Region orchestra is a lot of fun and hard work definitely pays off at the concert.”
