15 band students continue All State journey
January 5, 2017
Students in the band program will audition for one of the TMEA 5A or 6A All-State bands throughout the day at Coppell High School on Saturday after advancing past region auditions.
“Area auditions are a chance for the participating students on campus to demonstrate their advanced abilities on their instrument,” assistant band director Zach Anderson said. “All of the directors and faculty are very proud of their hard work and we know that they all have the potential to do really well at Saturday’s audition.”
Although the students use varying practice routines, they all have committed the time and hard work that they feel is necessary to be successful.
“Over the breaks I tried to practice 2.5 or 3 hours a day and during school I’ve been practicing about an hour or hour and a half a day,” junior trombonist Caitlyn Hazzard said. “I’m really excited, and [Saturday] will be a cool opportunity to have fun and see how far I can advance in the process.”
While these students feel prepared, the audition will pose challenges that will inevitably be addressed.
“Well there’s just a lot of competition,” says French horn player Daniel Heo. “There are some really good people, especially from our region, but I’m excited because it’s my last shot since I’m a senior, and I guess it’s my time to shine.”
