Seven students on campus have been recognized for their exceptional performance in the Collin County Youth Art Show that took place in McKinney January 10-13.

“[Students] have to enter and take the art to the Myer’s Event Center in McKinney and then the show is judged and up for one day,” art teacher Pernie Fallon said. “The prizes are awarded when the teacher goes to pick up the artwork.”

Receiving recognition came as a shock to freshman Kira Robinson, who got First Place and won the Grand Prize for her drawing of a skeleton. The award has also provided her with more confidence in her ability to draw.

“This award has kind of been a surprise and I’m happy that I’ve won,” Robinson said. “It makes me feel more confident about my art and it might help me because if I have more confidence to do art I might try to do more ambitious work and projects.”

This was the first time the school has taken part in the show so winning these awards means a lot to Fallon, who has spent the year preparing her students through teaching them various art skills.

“I was really surprised and excited,” Fallon said. It really made me proud of them and to see that they were doing exceptional work compared to other schools in Collin County, it was nice to know that we were right up there at the top level.”
