Taking a 3-point shot during practice, sophomore Zion Richardson is one of just two sophomores on the boys’ varsity squad.

Wingspan: How long have you been playing basketball? When did you start?

Richardson: “I first started playing basketball when I was three, with my dad.”

Wingspan: What is your favorite part about basketball?

Richardson: “My favorite part about basketball is probably winning and scoring, putting the ball through the basket.”

Wingspan: What gets you pumped up before a game?

Richardson: “We’ll play music and do our pre-game warm ups so that gets us pumped and just listening to music.”

Wingspan: You play both a guard and post, what position do you enjoy the most?

Richardson: “I feel like I can really play both, it’s gotten easier for me. I used to play a guard when I was little and when I got taller they moved me to be a post

Wingspan: Is it intimidating to be a sophomore on varsity?

Richardson: “At first it was, but the older players made it better for me. So no, I play with the competition and it got easier for me.”

Wingspan: Are you happy with how you’ve played so far this season?

Richardson: “Yes I am, I feel like I have grown as a player and as a person.”

Wingspan: Are there any professional players or individuals that you look up to?

Richardson: “I model my game after Kobe Bryant and his mentality I also try to model just his game in general”

Wingspan: What are your plans for your future career in basketball?

Richardson: “Definitely, I want to play in college, and if god willing I’ll make it to the NBA
