UIL academic teams competed at Prosper High School on Saturday with the school taking third place out of thirty-one schools.

UIL consists of multiple teams including math, science, English and journalism. Teams competed in eighteen events and scored in nine, with the science team taking top honors.

“Our best performance was in science,” Schrantz said. “We had individuals take first, second, and third place and the team won first. In all the different events we competed in, we got points from almost all the events. It was neat to see students be successful in every type of event.”

With the next district meet taking place March 24, UIL students will continue to practice in hopes of bettering their performance.

“Our district meet is about six weeks away,” Schrantz said. “We used the last two practice meets to get valuable experience and narrow down teams for districts. We’ll hopefully step it up a bit and keep practicing because there’s no real secret to success other than just more practice.”
