Band and orchestra students began spring break early Friday morning to travel to Disneyland in California and Disney World and Universal Studios in Florida respectively.

Orchestra students are driving 23 hours to the Sunshine State and hope to make the most of their long journey.

“We are excited to go to Disney and Universal Studios,” orchestra director Julie Blackstock said. “Since we can only travel out of state once every four years, so we’re trying to make it worth it.”

Their trip will also be an educational experience that still relates to their class.

“Besides the highlights of Magic Kingdom and Harry Potter, the students will also be performing in the Disney studios as part of a workshop,” Blackstock said. “Ultimately they will accompany as the soundtrack orchestra to a famous Disney animated film while it is projected on a screen. They will get a small taste of what it’s like to be studio musicians.”

Although a long way from home, students are looking forward to celebrating their time together.

“I feel like this is the reason I joined orchestra,” sophomore Hannah Kim said. “I know the lines are gonna be uber long but since I’ll be with friends, every second will be worth it.”
