Former Redhawk and 2015 graduate Keaton Parks was put on the U.S. U-20 men’s national team roster on Sunday for its training camp in London as the team prepares for May’s U-20 World Cup in Korea.

“I’m a little nervous, but I’ve been playing this game my whole life and I know I’m good enough,” Parks said in an article posted on DallasNews.com. “I’m psyched to get to show off my abilities and wear the crest for the first time.”

Rather than playing for SMU which offered him a scholarship, Parks went to Europe where he is currently playing for Varzim S.C. in Portugal’s Second Division.

Redhawks head soccer coach Fred Kaiser isn’t surprised by Keaton’s invitation to the U-20 training camp.

“Keaton is one of those players who’s not only very talented but also a hard worker,” Kaiser said. “It’s good to see success come to a player like that. He’s always been a ridiculously good soccer player and just to see the growth over time in different aspects of the game, I mean with him you could always kind of see it coming.”
