Diners looking to get a taste of authentic New York style pizza and Italian food need look no farther than Luigi’s Pizza and Pasta in Frisco on Preston Road.

When the owners of Luigi’s moved here to Texas more than twenty years ago, one of the first things they noticed was the lack of restaurants that served authentic New York style pizza They then took it upon themselves to create a restaurant that not only served New York style pizza, but made it out of respect and love for the real thing.

Obviously, without ingredients, you have no food, and none of the ingredients used by Luigi’s disappoint. As you take your first bite, one of the things you will immediately notice is the freshness of the crust. Unlike most pizza places, their crust is made fresh each morning, and never frozen.

Another thing you will notice right away is the sauce. The sauce is made with the freshest home grown tomatoes, and freshly squashed for each pizza.

Pizza
Luigi’s Pizza is located at 4944 Preston Road and has been serving pizza and Italian food for more than 20 years.

The cheese used is mozzarella, an Italian classic. Most pizza places will use American, cheddar, or, even worse, “pizza cheese”, but not at Luigi’s.

Of course, they serve more than pizza at Luigi’s. Some of the more outstanding menu items are as follows: a chicken parmesan sandwich, antipasto salad, and mozzarella sticks.

The freshness of the bread particularly shines through in the chicken parmesan sandwich. As you bite into it, you will immediately notice how fresh and crisp the bread is. The sauce also shines through, as there is much more uses than on the pizza. The only real complaint about this dish is the amount of chicken used. In most Italian places, on the chicken parmesan, they will use a big slab of chicken. However, here, the amount used is just a bit below normal.

At first glance, the antipasto salad may look like one of the most disgusting things you have ever come across. It is a weird mess of colors, all from green to white to red to black. The antipasto salad may look disgusting, but it is not. Not by a long shot. In it there is lettuce, olives, salami, and cheese. The dressing is heavenly. It is slightly bitter, but is just left of the fine line between delicious and completely disgusting. Get it. You will not regret it.

And now for the mozzarella sticks. Even if you don’t like mozzarella sticks, you will like these. They have just the right amount of breading, and the same fresh mozzarella cheese that tops the pizza is used once again. Sometimes they may not be cooked thoroughly, but more often than not they are.

Of course, one of the most important things to consider about a restaurant is its atmosphere. As you pull up to Luigi’s, the first thing you will immediately notice is how small it is. In fact, it is so small, it can barely fit the name on top of it. Luigi’s is part of a strip mall, and the amount of it that they are renting is barely enough to fit even the kitchen.

Once inside, it’s even more packed. This is, of course, due to the fact that it is so small. The inside looks pretty much like your average New York pizzeria. On one wall, there is a mural of downtown New York City, and on another wall there are pictures of early 1920’s-1930’3 New York.

There are two televisions inside, each playing a different game. It makes it seem almost like a mini Italian sports bar. Sports fans will love this, as it will give them an alternative to the big, noisy sports bars and allows them to relax and have a casual dinner while watching their favorite team pummel their rivals.
So, if you are from New York and looking to get a taste of authentic New York style Italian food, or if you are just looking for a great slice of pizza, go to Luigi’s Pizza and Pasta in Frisco. Trust me, you will not regret it.
