Review: Local pays off for Lyfe Kitchen

Upon entering, Lyfe Kitchen, diners are greeted by a wide variety of plants and herbs. The restaurants main focus is flavor and freshness, and judging by the giant shelf of different herbs, diners are getting just that.

With only three locations in Texas, LYFE kitchen is a new and popular addition to the Plano/Frisco area. Other locations reside in places such as California, Colorado and  Tennessee. Lyfe kitchen is a dine-in restaurant where they get their food sources all locally.

From the outside, there are large floor-length glass windows letting diners get a view of the inside before entering. Diners are able to see the cozy booths and soft lighting, accompanied by the overabundance of plants. There are plants covering nearly every surface in the restaurant.

Upon entering, you’re again greeted by a wide variety of plants and herbs. Their main focus is flavor and freshness, and judging by the giant shelf of different herbs, diners are getting just that. While you would think this amount of greenness would be pungent or annoying, it’s actually kind of endearing. Each plant is labeled in a cute font on a black chalkboard, giving it a homey feel. In fact, the whole diner gives you the feeling that you’re right at home in your own kitchen.

After entering, another thing diners immediately notice is the sectioned off areas. It’s very clear where you’re supposed to order and pay, and where you are supposed to sit. Behind the barista counter, is the menu with a lot of foods only featured for that specific day. The barista’s are extra friendly, humorous even. They make sure diners are aware of all their specials and answer questions openly.

On the menu, each meal has it’s calorie and substitute options right beneath it. In addition, they have a lot of gluten free and vegan options as well.

They also have a large variety of drinks, including four different types of waters. Despite that, I ordered a cappuccino.

After ordering, I went and sat in a cozy booth with my friend. She had ordered an Italian Flatbread Sandwich and a classic lemonade for a drink. We enjoyed our meal a lot. The Lyfe Veggie Burger was amazing. I’d been skeptical about it at first, because I ordered the gluten-free option. It filled me up so much so that I didn’t leave one bite on my plate. Neither did my friend (I even had a couple bites of her sandwich, it was amazing too).

The prices overall were not too crazy, either. A lot of times, diners whose focus is to make the food as healthy as possible have expensive options, but Lyfe Kitchen had pretty reasonable prices. After leaving, I felt satisfied and I knew it’d become one of my go-to food places.
