This mission for the defense and for the whole football team Thursday night at 7 p.m. , is to slow down Jason Shelley, Lone Star’s quarterback, a University of Utah commit and ranked as the one of the top dual threat quarterbacks in the nation.

“The way that they thrive is through the big play,” defensive coordinator Brandon Gonzales said.  “We’re trying to set our defense this week to prevent the big play, keep him in front of us and run the football.”

Although Lone Star has developed a reputation of being Frisco’s football powerhouse, the players are ready to take them on at the Ford Center on Thursday, regardless of their previous success.

“No, they aren’t intimidating, not at all, it’s just better competition and it helps show them what you’ve got,” wide receiver CJ Brooks said. “As long as we get their pass game down and stop [Shelley] when he runs out we’ll be good.”

The football team is coming into the game with a 1-1 District 13-5A record, trailing 2-0 Lone Star by just one game.

“We are going to to what the team wants, if they want to win then we will, but if they get scared then it’s not going to happen,” running back Jadon Eggen said. “I need to remember that my teammates and brothers are going to be there for me and have my back.”
