Although most students get to the game plenty of time before kickoff, for volleyball players, making it by halftime is a victory on most Fridays. Along with the football team playing in the homecoming game versus Heritage at Memorial, volleyball will be competing for a chance to move up in the District 13-5A standings against Frisco at the Nest.

Typically, after the varsity team finishes their game, they are required to stay and cheer on the other teams, however homecoming is a different story.

“It’s really fun to be able to go to the game,” senior Olivia Overlin said. “Especially since it’s homecoming and it’s one game we can leave early.”

The volleyball team plays at 5:30 p.m. and football doesn’t start until 7 p.m. giving the varsity team plenty of time to make it to the stadium to enjoy everything that comes along with homecoming.

“It’s their only opportunity, we never let them leave, we really make it a point to support program and make sure every team is supported,” head volleyball coach Ui Womble said. “I also want our kids to have the opportunity to be high school kids and to enjoy all those fun events. Varsity is mostly seniors and juniors so I let them go because it’s their friends who are out there on the football team and in the homecoming court and student council so i think they need to be a part of it.”
