The 17th annual Gary Burns Annual Fun Run, raising funds for the Frisco Education Foundation, is Saturday morning at Toyota Stadium.

“The Run benefits the Frisco Education Foundation and provides college scholarships for Frisco ISD students,” Frisco Education Foundation Director Allison Miller said in an email. “When Frisco Assistant Fire Chief Gary Burns passed away in September 1999, he left a community forever touched by his dedication, compassion, energy, and faith. We honor Gary’s unparalleled commitment to Frisco with a Run which enables us to build a brighter future for our children.”

Besides the walk, the event features things like food, family activities and this year’s special guests: the City of Frisco Fire Clowns.

“They have been a staple of the event since 2000,” Miller said. “Most of our community has seen the Frisco Fire Clowns at other community events, Safety Town, and in our schools.”

The event was founded by former Frisco Assistant Fire Chief Gary Burns who was known for supporting students by donating clothing, food, money, etc, to help the less fortunate students in our community.

For people more interested in catching some sleep there is the option to buy a “Guilt-Free Sleep In Coupon.”

“This is a way for people to participate in contributing to our cause and fundraising efforts without attending the actual event,” Miller said. “This is pretty common with race related events.”
