The volleyball team takes on Prosper Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. in the first round of playoffs at McKinney High School. The team has fallen to Prosper in the first round of playoffs for the past three consecutive years, but this year they are determined to change that.

“I think we’ve set a really high expectation for ourselves because we’ve lost the past 3 years,” junior Katelyn Burtch said. “So I guess I’m just nervous about overcoming the losses of the past years. We’re confident because we’ve gotten so much better than what we have been in years past, I think we’re really focused on what we need to do to get past the first round.”

Last year’s game was one of the closest they’ve had and this year the team is hopeful about coming away with the win.

“I really look forward to the opportunity to play them again,” head coach Ui Womble said. “We played them tight last year, we lost by two points in the fifth game of our playoff match last year and I really see us as having a lot of weapons to throw at them this year. They’ve graduated a lot of people and their team looks a lot of different than the one that we saw last year so I’m excited about our opportunity.”

The team is using the momentum from the end of district play to gear up for Tuesday’s playoff game.

“Coming off of our win from Reedy, we played really great those last three sets with Reedy,” freshman Jenna Wenaas said. “So I just think that we’re all really pumped up and really excited to play.”
