The girls wrestling team is one of the largest in the district.

Wingspan: What is your favorite thing about wrestling?

Cook: “Just our team dynamic because we’re all really close and so we’re all just a really big family.’’

Wingspan: What do you do to prepare for a match?

Cook: “I warm up by getting my body ready by pacing around the gym and just get in my head and I’ll think what I want to do during a match.”

Wingspan: What is your favorite maneuver to do when you are wrestling your opponent, why do you like this maneuver?

Cook: “I really like duck unders because it’s really fun to just kinda throw them a little bit and it’s pretty low risk.”

Wingspan: What is your favorite thing about practice?

Cook: “When we do shark groups it’s really fun because it helps you work on different situations and it’s a good way to condition.”

Wingspan: When you get stuck in a jam on the mat, what do you do to get out?

Cook: “I make sure I don’t get discouraged because if I get discouraged I won’t get out so I have to sit there and stay calm and think about what I learned and my training to get out of the jam.”

Wingspan: What motivated you to wrestle, how did that motivate you?

Cook: “Liberty came to middle schools and just talked to us about everything and it souded really interesting and then just how close our team is just made it worth it whether it was harder because I really was not that good at it at the time.”

Wingspan: How does it feel to slam somebody on the mat during a match?

Cook: “It feels really good.”

Wingspan: After a match what do you do to relax?

Cook: “I just kinda focus on bringing my heart rate down and focusing on the next match.”

Wingspan: Being a sophomore on varsity is that a big goal for you, how are you able to achieve that ?

Cook: “Yeah that is a pretty big deal I don’t just work at school I also go work at a club three to four times a week outside of school.”

Wingspan: When the match first starts what are you thinking about, are you thinking about the first move to perform on your opponent?

Cook: “Yeah I usually think about what I want to get to and how their starting out in what positions and so what move I can hit.”
