Why boys grow facial hair
February 28, 2017
For some guys, growing facial hair is an unavoidable factor in the transitioning from a boy into a man.
Once a guy has to start shaving, he has to make a decision to have facial hair or not.
For many, the choice to grow a beard or mustache is about looking older.
“I like my beard because it makes me look older,” senior Nithin Hari said. “When I don’t have it I look like a freshman so this way people know I’m a senior and I’m not actually lying when I say that.”
“I have a mustache because it makes me look more older, mature, and cuts away from my baby face,” junior Julian Torres said. “I look 15 and like a younger person with it I feel more mature all the time.”
Some girls on campus think the same way.
“I like guys with facial hair,” junior Sabrina Poole said. “It makes them look more clean cut, mature, and I just think it looks better because I don’t know it makes them seem more manly I guess than guys with like clean shaven faces. Guys with clean shave faces look childish and like high schoolers.”
However for some girls, facial hair isn’t a make or break situation.
“It’s not something I look for to be like oh dang I want him because he has facial hair,” sophomore Brenna Dobbs said. “I kind of care less but I prefer not to have facial hair.”
Perhaps the real test for guys with facial hair is what would they do if a girl didn’t like what they have.
“Would i shave it?,” Torres said. “If a girl in the future said she didn’t like it and I like her I would shave it but that’s not the case so I’m keeping it.”
