Wingspan: What is your favorite position on the field?

Birckelbaw: “Probably pitcher or somewhere on the infield.”

Wingspan: What got you started playing softball?

Birckelbaw: “My friend was playing and she told me to try it out, so I did.”

Wingspan: What is your favorite part about softball and why?

Birckelbaw: “I like the competitiveness of it and how it’s a team sport, but you still try to do your best individually.”

Wingspan: Are you happy with how the season is going so far, and how do you want to end it?

Birckelbaw: “Yes, we just got two big wins so I think everything is going good so far. We definitely want to make playoffs this year because we haven’t been yet.”

Wingspan: What is the hardest part about preparing for a big game?

Birckelbaw: “Probably the practices because they are so long and they’re early in the morning, but it’s worth it.”

Wingspan: What is your favorite memory so far playing softball?

Birckelbaw: “I don’t really have one, just having fun being out there on the field.”

Wingspan: How do you want to pursue this sport in the future?

Birckelbaw: “Probably not college, just finishing out high school and have fun with it.”

Wingspan: How do you want to improve your game?

Birckelbaw: “I definitely want to try and hit more this season.”

Wingspan: What is the most difficult part about softball

Birckelbaw: “The different pitchers in district because everyone is different so it’s hard to get everyone to adjust to the different speeds that they throw.”

Wingspan: Are there any rival teams that your team goes up against?

Birckelbaw: “Independence, Heritage, and Centennial are our three biggest competitors probably.”

Wingspan: Do you play softball outside of school?

Birckelbaw: “Yes, I play on a club team called Texas Elite.”

Wingspan: What is your favorite part about being a member of the team?

Birckelbaw: “I love having people to talk to and go to. It’s just more friends and sisters basically.”
