Summer camp launches Red Rhythm year

Red Rhythm’s first performance of the school year is next Friday, but the team has been at work since their summer camp began near Houston.

WTV’s Neha Perumalla has the story.

From July 29 to August 1, the drill team traveled to the La Torretta Lake Resort and Spa north of Houston for line camp.

“The main purpose of having a line camp for Red Rhythm is proving an opportunity for them to learn all the choreography for football season and team building activities just to benefit from the camp such as setting examples, integrity, working as a team, and most of all being kind and loving each other,” drill team director Nicole Nothe said.

The Crowd Pleasers Line Camp was intended to teach the dancers routines from various dance styles with Bollywood infusion being taught by special guest director, Mahesh Mahbubani.

It’s a great way to reiterate the things we tell the girls every day,

“I personally thought Bollywood dance was so much fun because it’s not something that I’m used to, so it’s always nice to step outside of your comfort zone and try new things,” drill team first lieutenant Mallory Kalka said. “So, I thought it was really nice to just have fun with it.”

Red Rhythm also participated in team bonding activities where special guest Rob Miller, a motivational leadership speaker, gave a lecture on team leadership.

“The leadership seminars with Rob Miller were eye opening,” drill team captain Karley Dykes said. “It’s a great way to reiterate the things we tell the girls every day and hear it from a new person and get a new perspective on everything.”

Towards the end of the camp, the dancers practiced a routine they learned  prior to camp and later performed it in front of judges and were awarded outstanding showmanship, outstanding technique, outstanding precision, perfectly poised, as well as the Platinum Elite Award.
