Senior, Isabella Santiago, has reluctantly rejoined Wingspan for the third year. The entirety of her time is dedicated to wingspan, band, and rewatching How I Met Your Mother. She has aspired to be a doctor the majority of her life, after a brief period of wanting to be a trucker digger princess when she was five. Her passions include Game of Thrones and Belgian waffles.

Rather than performing more traditional competition pieces, the Redhawks marching band has been practicing pop songs to perform at halftime of football games. The change is partly a result of the early start to the school year but also allows for all band members to be involved. “It gives the opportunity for every student to participate in a marching spot, band director Jamie Weaver said. Whereas before with the competitive show, not everybody is on the field and they have different roles and so this way everybody gets the opportunity.

Finding his way to the cello wasnt a grand plan according to junior William Vo. “To be completely honest, the reason why I chose the cello was because I realized I was a lazy kid, Vo said. Out of all the instruments available to me, the cello was the one that appealed to me because you had to sit and play, unlike the higher instruments, as well as the cello not being as big as the bass.”

Practicing on the south student parking lot, the marching band is seen most frequently at football games, but this this year the band has another goal in mind. “In this past year specifically I’ve seen a shift from the band being oriented towards a goal to more towards the process by which we achieve said goal,” senior drum major Shane Bugni said. “Specifically this state year the goal is clearly to make state marching contest.
