The curtain will be rising on November 30 as theater presents its fall musical, Little Women. While most students get to rest without work over Thanksgiving break, nearly 80 students on the cast and crew for this production will be utilizing that time to refine their skills before the show.

“We’ve been rehearsing since July 31 and we have a very talented group of vocalists so this show’s really coming along between that and the orchestra and the crew,” theatre director Heather Willingham said. “I am looking at the break as an opportunity for them to get much needed rest and hoping that we all come back refreshed and ready to go for our opening.”

Although this show has been in the making for several months now, some crew members are anxious of the effects having a week long break may have on the cast’s skills.

“I’m really scared because I feel like the actors might forget their lines and the crew might forget their cue and we are going to be rushing the last week,” assistant stage manager Sarah Ahmed said. “I’m going to go through my scripts and make sure that if any of the crew is confused I can help them.”

Willingham urges students to use their days off as a time period to grow their skills and maintain the efforts they have been putting into the show until now.

“I will send emails and I send Remind 101 out just to remind them to stay on top of their lines and their songs,” Willingham said. “If students don’t continue over break, they will forget everything and then we won’t have the show that we’ve been working towards for four months now.”

Junior Eduardo Borja-Prieto anticipates to spend his time off over the break polishing his acting skills and obtaining extra practice to ensure the performance goes smoothly.

“Over the break, we all should be singing our songs, going through our lines and if we’re able to, we should be meeting up with other cast members to possibly sing through the show or have line-throughs,” Borja-Prieto said. “I feel like it’s going to go well because I’m very confident in the talents of everyone in the cast.”
