Wrestling hosted Lebanon Trail, Southlake Carroll, Argyle, St. Mark’s, and McKinney Boyd, in the Liberty Throwdown Saturday morning.

Redhawks Precious Essien managed to win 4 of his 5 matches with 3 of those wins ending in a pin. Austin Widner also won 4 of his matches, one by forfeit, and lost only to Southlake Carroll’s Zach Barz. Standout of the tournament was Diego Lorenzo who was able to win all of his matches totalling 26 points for the entire tournament as well as Jonathan Green who totalled 30 points.

The boys’ team placed 2nd in the tournament, trailing only Southlake Carroll but beating the other four schools by more than 9-plus points in each of those match ups.

The girls’ wrestling team competed in the Cowgirl Classic at Coppell on Friday. The team was without its two seniors Martha Moore and Ashtyn Stevens who missed the meet due to injury. However, junior Savannah West received most outstanding wrestler of the tournament as the girls placed 3rd, falling only to Coppell and LewisvilleOn Saturday, the girls’ also took part in the Liberty Throwdown, winning their quad dual.

Both the guys and girls wrestling teams next event is Tuesday as they have a tri-meet against Azle and Burleson in the Nest. On the court, boys’ basketball competed in the Mansfield Classic Tournament over the weekend, going 4-1 and winning the consolation championship.

Meanwhile, the girls’ basketball team competed in the Arlington Classic over the weekend, finishing with a record of 2-2.
