As society becomes more aware of food restrictions and gains a deeper understanding of benefits of healthy eating, new restaurants are emerging with greater options for vegans, vegetarians and those with gluten and dairy allergies.

True Food Kitchen at the Shops at Legacy West offers a great deal of fresh and unique dishes with great options for those with certain dietary preferences.

As a vegan, it can be hard to find places to eat but True Food is a favorite due to how easily certain meals can be adjusted.

For the appetizer, the table started with the Charred Cauliflower and Herb Hummus. The cauliflower is mediterranean style cooked, made with tahini and topped with pistachios and dates. It was a great mixture of sweet and salty, however there was too much sauce poured over the top of them and the tahini overpowered the other flavors.

The herb hummus was a great way to start the meal off because of its simplicity. It was kind of like a warm up for our taste buds. The garlic and herbs were a great touch and although it wasn’t fully vegan because of the feta cheese sprinkled over the top, it was a nice touch for my siblings and dad who aren’t vegan.

The grilled chicken salad was modified so it would come without the chicken and the cheese topping. The sweetness from the dates and apples, crunchiness from the almonds and the leafy greens, and the tartness from the champagne vinaigrette all combined to make a perfect and filling salad.

With a clean, modern interior, True Food also offers modern food options catered to dietary needs.

There are plenty of non-vegan options including the Grass-fed Burger which is what my father had for his lunch. He loved the flavors that the caramelized onions and mushrooms gave off, combined with the juicy meat, and thought it was the best burger he’s had in a really long time.

Finally, for dessert, a bowl of the Vegan Ice Cream was the order while the others tried the Flourless Chocolate Cake. The ice cream was super creamy and such a treat for the heat, as we were sitting out in the sun on the outside patio. According to my family, the cake was extremely rich and not for someone who isn’t a fan of dark, unsweetened chocolate, but they still enjoyed it.

True Food Kitchen will never disappoint. It is a favorite restaurant, and will continue to be until another restaurant shows up with just as great as service, freshness and quality of food, but at a lower price. True Food is a little pricey, compared to other restaurants in the area, however it is definitely money well spent.
