Monday sports recap: Basketball sweeps Titans, swimmers advance

The swim team took part in the District 10-5A meet on Saturday.

The boys squad took home second place with 95 total team points, with 6 individual swimmers advancing to regionals.

First place performances came from senior Jiwoo Oh in 100m breaststroke and 100m butterfly, and junior Jack Easton in the 100 backstroke.

On the girls side, the team took home fourth place in district with 69 team points. 6 Redhawks advanced to regionals including sophomore Bailey Wright in diving.

Senior Julia Cole placed 3rd in 100m butterfly, as well as the team placing second in the 200 and 400m freestyle relays.

On the court, girls’ and guys’ basketball traveled to the school down the street to take on Centennial on Friday.

On the girls side, the Redhawks defense held the titans to just 16 points and helped produce a 50-16 win.

The win is the team’s 11th straight as they are in second place in District 13-5A trailing only Lone Star.

For the guys, junior Zion Richardson put up 19 points followed by senior Jadyn Bennett with 11, leading the team to a 59-41 win.

Both the guys’ and girls’ only losses in district play came to Lone Star, setting up Tuesday night’s showdown in the Nest against the Rangers.

The girls tip at 6 p.m. followed by guys at 7 p.m.
