With practice starting back in December for the girls’ soccer team, it’s time to focus on the start of District 13-5A play that begins Tuesday against Heritage at the Ford Center starting at 5:30 p.m. with the boys’ team also playing the Coyotes immediately after.

“I think our first district game will be kinda interesting because we’re going through preseason right now and we have only played a few games so far,” freshman Avery Jennings said. “Overall, I think it’s going to be a good experience for all of us. It’s definitely been a really different experience but they all treat us like family and it’s just been a lot of fun. Even with the tournament and our scrimmages are complete nerves and we have to get used to it. “

For head coach Elizabeth Mokler, this is her first year on campus, but she likes what she has seen from this year’s team.

“We have had some great competition, highs and lows,” Mokler said. “The girls work really hard and there’s good team chemistry and they’re definitely fighting for their playoff spot and chance at state this year. I’m a little bit nervous about. We’re playing at the Ford Center which is a big field but our girls are in good shape and I think they’re going to work their tails off to get that win, our first one hopefully. We’re going against Heritage and I think it’s going to be very exciting. It’s a good atmosphere to play there at the Ford Center. I’ve got high hopes but I think they’ll have fun in that atmosphere. The girls at this school just seem to have more of a drive, more of a passion for the sport and more of a family atmosphere and they really like each other and playing with each other and they make it fun everyday and they have a good balance between hard work and fun which I think is amazing and that’s what sets them apart.”
