Wingspan: How long have you been playing basketball and what got you started?

Kurak: “ I’ve been playing basketball since I was about six, so eleven years now. I got started from my family because my brothers were super athletic growing up and they played basketball, so I wanted to be like them”

Wingspan: What made you decide that basketball was the sport for you?

Kurak: “I knew basketball was the sport for me when I actually started playing with a bunch of friends who I got super close with and they ended up doing basketball in high school. They did basketball in high school so I just wanted to be like them and i knew they were going to be my true friends and a good crowd for me.”

Wingspan: What fuels your passion to play?

Kurak: “I guess that you can say that my family inspires me to play basketball. They always push me and encourage me to be my best.”

Wingspan: What has been one of your biggest and proudest accomplishments?

Kurak: “I guess making the Sandra Meadows all tournament team.”

Wingspan: What is something you struggle with?

Kurak: “I think the biggest struggle sometimes here is keeping your confidence with Coach Reedy because he can get on to you a lot and yell at you. But he always at the end of the day tells you to keep your confidence up. It’s just kind of hard.”

Wingspan: What is your mentality during a game?

Kurak: “ I really go out there and try not to care if I mess up or get yelled at or anything. I just kind of gotta go out there and expect yourself to succeed and do good in school. At the beginning of the season I was more nervous but at this point I have gotten more comfortable with being on the court and the kind of player I am. I am more confident now.”

Wingspan: What disappoints you the most in your sport?

Kurak: “I think the most disappointing thing is when we lose a game that we know we could’ve won so easily. Especially this year against Lone Star, we definitely have a better team than them and have better team chemistry and it’s just really disappointing when we fall short on those games.”

Wingspan: What is your favorite part about being on the team?

Kurak: “My favorite part is the people. I love the friendships and the relationships that we have like the coaches and the players and the managers. It’s just a really special team that we have here.”
