After last night’s biennial football realignment, the new District 5A football divisions have been decided. Frisco ISD has now been spit up into 5A Division I Region 2 District 5 and 5A Division II Region 2 District 7.

The school will have eight total district games, 6 of those against Frisco schools, along with Little Elm and The Colony.

“The teams we face will be very familiar,” head athletic director Chris Burtch said. “Frisco schools, The Colony and Little Elm. We have very recent playing experiences versus all of these teams.”

While this alignment is very different from past years, the school will still face the rest of their Frisco opponents in every other sport.

“Very excited for all the high school athletes,” FISD Athletic Director David Kuykendall said.
“Two different football districts and everyone together for the rest of the sports.”

This new alignment also allows the chance for eight Frisco schools to make to the 5A playoffs in the 2018 season.

“The football opportunities are exactly what we hoped for,” Kuykendall said. “The possibility of having more FISD schools advance into the playoffs.”
