Many couples on campus enjoyed Valentine’s day by exchanging roses, balloons, stuffed animals, and chocolates. But one student on campus didn’t limit the celebration to just couples.

Senior Julian Torres spent the day distributing paper hearts to students around campus.

“I wanted to make these for the student body because some people don’t have any valentines this year and I wanted to give people a gift,” Torres said. “I started this project around September because I knew I was going to do this from the beginning.”

For senior Aiman Raza, this simple gesture had a lot of meaning.

“When he gave to me, I felt like there’s still good people out there and it was just really sweet,” Raza said. “He started from September to make all these hearts for people he doesn’t even know and just to see others smile means so much to him.”

This was not Torres’ first time making gifts for Valentines Day. Previously, Torres had made roses for others; however, the quantity this year is tremendously higher than last years’.

“Well last year I made about 100 roses,” Torres said. “This year I made about 600 hearts.”

The project was months in the making, with Torres determined to complete these hearts for students on campus.

“The process was hard,” Torres said. “I stayed up multiple nights  to do multiple steps. I would take it to school. I knew  I could do it during free time in my classes. I just worked for for days on end, every free chance I got.”
