While most teams know very little about the about the surface they play on, baseball players get first hand experience in setting up their field. Every day before practice and games, the players are tasked with setting up the very field they will play on with Tuesday no different as the team gets ready to host Independence at 7:30 p.m.

“Setting up a baseball field is actually really complicated in the sense of we really need to have everything ready to rock,” baseball coach Kenneth Schiumo. “Really the one thing we worry about is getting the grass mowed and that what coach [Michael] Sepanek does and if you look at the baseball field there is usually some design mowed into it so that’s really cool and we make sure that the lines are chalked, outside of that the district paints the outfield lines and then the kids handle the rest.”

While to some, this task may just seem like something that needs to be done to play, the work benefits athletes in ways beyond the game.

“I think beyond baseball it can really beneficial  to set that up in things like it in like a work environment and like at home because it kind of sharpens your attention to detail,” sophomore Travis Wagoner said. “Then at home you gotta be able to follow you parents whenever you have to do chores and stuff like that so I think in those to areas it really helps you get better.”
