One of the items on the menu is the Mega Lobster Roll.

Off of Preston Road, a huge “Grand Opening” inflatable by a brand new fine oriental bistro greets cars passing by. Meso Asia is a Japanese and Chinese restaurant with many sushi options in the Frisco area. The restaurant had its opening last month, but is still promoting its food to neighborhoods nearby by sending out flyers. The flyer left on my family’s door prompted us to give this place a try.

Upon walking in, it is very clear that the establishment is brand new. There is contemporary artwork, along with Asian paintings hanging on the wall. The restaurant is clean and there is an ample amount of space to seat many customers. Booths and tables fill up the entire space. The hostess quickly seated us and offered us drinks. While looking over the menu, the prices struck me as a little bit on the higher end; however, there were many food options.

To start off, I ordered a hot and sour soup. The contents included a mixture of bamboo shoots, mushrooms, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, ginger and chili sauce. The soup bursted with flavor, but was quite watery. I don’t typically drink hot and sour soup, so maybe it’s supposed to be that watery. However besides that, the soup tasted fairly good.

For the main courses, my family and I ordered the regular fried rice and a mega lobster sushi roll. The fried rice was incredibly good and was served in a nice bowl. It was a simple, but savory. What caught me by surprise was their use of peas in this fried rice. Now I’ve been to many Asian restaurants, and I don’t think I’ve had fried rice with peas in it. This was new to me, but it definitely did not take away from the taste.

The sushi roll was a primary reason as to why we decided to visit this restaurant. My family and I often go to sushi places, but we had never heard of a “mega lobster roll” before. This item was a whopping $25. Now there wasn’t really anything “mega” about it besides the fact that there was a huge fried lobster tail on the plate. The roll came with 12 pieces, which is slightly more than the average number of pieces of sushi. The sushi roll also came with a tangy mango sauce, which was unique. However, the price was not worth the quality or quantity of the sushi. The lobster in the sushi was very hard to chew and the sushi was not wrapped well in the seaweed, which caused half of the contents to fall out when taking a bite. We did not finish the roll, so we took it home. Eventually, it ended up in the trash because no one in my family wanted to eat it.

We did not order dessert, but I do remember looking at the 2 desert options and wanting both. Now, we only tried three items on the menu, so I could not possibly have a strong opinion about this establishment. Therefore, I would like to come back and give this place another try, because I feel like there are other options that I should try. This may not be the best Asian restaurant I’ve been to, but due to its prime location makes, its an easy go-to restaurant with both Chinese and Japanese food options.
