Select students are auditioning for all region choir today after months of preparation on Tuesday. The process consists of many rounds of auditions, and once each round is completed the students advance.

“They go through five rounds of auditions to make all state choir,” Ugolini said. “They are at the region process right now so they go to a room and sing three minutes worth of their music for judges who are behind a curtain so they can’t see them at all. Then if they rank high enough they go to the next round and if they make that round, they make the choir.”

Choir students have been practicing for all region auditions for months now.

“I’ve been doing lots of practicing over the summer and in the weeks prior to the audition.” Senior Jessica Gordon said. “There’s about 8 songs you have to learn for the whole process, and so a lot of my preparation was just learning all the music and adding dynamics and things to make me stand out during the audition.”

With Frisco being a part of the most competitive area, the choir is facing competition.

“We are against Plano and Frisco schools, which those are the ones if you look at the state level. If all the musicians could come from here, they probably would because we have the most talent and the most driven kids too and there’s not really a weak link.”

Although the process can be tedious, Gordon feels pretty prepared for the audition.

“I’m feeling pretty confident about the audition tomorrow.” Gordon said. “This is my 4th year in a row going through this process and soto a lot of it is pretty routine to me. I’m just a little nervous to be competing against so many people, but that’s also what is so exciting about the process.
