Extending their win streak to 15 straight games, the volleyball team took care of Independence 3-0 on Tuesday night as they near the end of District 9-5A play with only two matches left.

“The game was good, we started off just like we’d planned and took Independence out of their offensive system,” head coach Ui Womble said via email. “It’s been a very successful season, no losses in September and the plan is to keep it going in October and November.”

The servers were especially successful during the match, with senior Izzi Rodriguez serving five in a row and sophomore Damiana Bova-Ford serving six in a row during the first set.

“We came out really strong; the first two set we beat them under 10,” Bova-Ford said via text. “Our blocking was amazing, and everyone who served got at least two aces each time.”

A win against Heritage on Friday will solidify the Redhawks’ place atop District 9-5A, giving them the best chance to advance out of the first round of the playoffs.

“Definitely motivated to finish up district champs, winning on Friday puts us alone at first with no way to get caught,” Womble said via email. “Our Bi-District playoff game is a favorable matchup with District 10 and we are looking forward to the fun of playoffs.”
