Celebrating artists from the likes of Drake to Snoop Dogg, Rap Club, under the leadership of new president Max Bao, meets every Friday to discuss hip hop.

“We’re not planning on changing rap club significantly,” Bao said “But to enrich members, we will present lessons on everything from rap technical skills to philosophy, and members will be creating their own expressions to showcase their rhymes.”

Bao is following in the footsteps of the first two presidents, class of 2017 graduate Darnez Hill and class of 2018 graduate Jacob Eberhard, both of whom he was friends with.

The rest of the new Rap Club executive team includes Seniors Nathan Jones, Jonathan Evans, and Carson Navalta, all of which were original members of Rap Club.

“We are trying to educate people on the origins and meaning of rap and hip hop,” Navalta said. “We’re trying to teach and show off the highs and lows of rap culture to spark meaningful conversations. All the while expanding people’s musical tastes and exposure to such.”

A new president affects all members of Rap Club, including senior Luke Walls.

“I think that Rap Club is going to soar to new heights under the guidance of rap-enthusiast Max ‘$_b’ Bao,” Walls said. “He’s already begun drawing in new members and working on improving our club activities. Furthermore, he’s moved the meetings to Fridays during advisory, which are generally more accessible for us club members. I can say with utmost certainty that Rap Club will be fantastic this year under Max’s leadership.”
