  • With the rapid expansion of the school district, Frisco ISD has announced a new swimming club, Iron Horse Aquatics. The club will be open to kids ages 5-18 with hopes of developing skill at a local level that will evolve to benefit FISD swim.

  • Madeline Kennedy (12) is being splashed by Justin Jung (12). Grace Lane (12) along with Keith Taylor (9) are getting out of the warm-up pool. Everyone in the Liberty High School swim team competed, and placed 5th at the annual districts meet on 1/19/19.

  • The swim and diving teams compete in the Frisco ISD Invitational on Thursday, where they hope to see improvement. Team chemistry could be crucial in dropping times on Thursday.

  • Coming off after break, the swim team had split results. With both teams beating Lebanon Trail, and both teams falling to Centennial.

  • Freshman Keith Taylor is putting on his Liberty High School swim cap. Taylor competed in the 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke, and the 400 freestyle relay during the District swim meet on 1/19/19.

Swimming and diving continued in their journey to state over the long weekend as they competed in the District 10-5A meet from Thursday to Saturday, finding success throughout the competition.

With the top six times of each event moving onto regionals, senior Justin Jung was highly ranked for an array of individual and team events.

“I ranked second in the 50 free, third in the 100 fly, fourth in the 200 medley relay, and seventh in the 200 free relay,” Jung said via text. “I think I had a pretty good meet considering I hadn’t swam over winter break, which was just a couple weeks short of districts. Though it’s unfortunate that we were .05 off a spot in region for our 200 free relay and .2 off of 2nd place in our 200 medley relay. It’s really difficult to get into region, as Frisco is notoriously known to be one of the fastest districts and to have the most people advance to finals in regions.”

Placing third in the 50 and 100 freestyles, fifth in the medley relay, and fourth in the 200 freestyle relay, sophomore Mallory Showalter moves onto regionals, although it won’t come easy as her and her teammates ramp up for tougher practices.

“I am advancing to regionals in two individual events and two relays,” Showalter said via text. “Leading up to regionals, the training will get harder, but we will be focusing as working as a team & encouraging one another.”

While a part of the fifth placed medley relay and fourth placed freestyle relay, junior Hannah Nguyen saw areas of individual improvement.

“There were some events I thought I could’ve done better in or there were mishaps during the event,” Nguyen said via text. “I think I can work on my starts, especially for the relay, so we can nail our transitions.”
