Family, friends, teammates, and coaches filled the library on Wednesday morning as six students signed their National Letter of Intent, committing to continue their athletic career in college.

Wingspan: What school did you choose?

Jain: “Pitzer College in Claremont, California.”

Wingspan: Why did you choose this school?

Jain: “It has the best combination of what I was looking for. It’s a small school and they have a big emphasis on environmental impact.”

Wingspan: What aspects appealed to you?

Jain: “I love the overall environment of the school. It’s very environmentally conscious and it’s a solid academic school, which was one of the big things on my list.”

Wingspan: What are you expecting from being a college athlete?

Jain: “I’m expecting to work really hard. Over the four years, my goal is to work as hard as I can, and see if at the end of it I can try and make the PGA Tour.”

Wingspan: How long did it take to make this decision?

Jain: “Pitzer was a college that really stood out from the beginning of the process. I still looked at a few other schools, but maybe six or eight weeks.”

Wingspan: What other options were you contemplating?

Jain: “I had a few other Division III’s that were looking at me; Trinity University, Southwestern University, Hamilton, Bowdoin, and Hillsdale is a Division II, and Michigan, and then Fordham was a Division I in New York.”   

Wingspan: How do you plan to prepare?

Jain: “I’ve been improving really well over the last few years, so I’m just trying to keep that path going and I think I just need to keep doing what I’m doing.”

Wingspan: What school did you choose?

Burtch: “Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri”

Wingspan: Why did you choose this school?

Burtch: “It’s a small school, faith based, excellent football program and far enough away from home.”

Wingspan: What aspects appealed to you?

Burtch: “The coaching staff is really successful, they were conference champions in the past years. Smaller school, good campus life, good tier program.”

Wingspan: What are you expecting from being a college athlete?

Burtch: “The goal is always to win the big game so I expect to be a college champion at least once or twice and then go for the National Final.

Wingspan: How long did it take to make this decision?

Burtch: “I had my official on the 17th and I committed the 21st, so four days.”

Wingspan: What other options were you contemplating?

Burtch: “My three other offers were from Oklahoma Baptist, East Central University, and Southern Arkansas University.”

Wingspan: How do you plan to prepare?

Burtch: “This summer is just going be a lot of being in the weight room, running with Mitchell and just trying to get my technique down.”

Wingspan: What school did you choose?

Miller: “I chose to go to Missouri University of Science and Technology.”

Wingspan: Why did you choose this school?

Miller: “They were one of the first ones to offer me and when I went up on my visit they made me feel like I was part of the team and it was a really good fit athletically and academically.”

Wingspan: What aspects appealed to you?

Miller: “They have a really good program and a really good engineer school, which is what I’m going into. They have a really good return on investment and there’s an opportunity for me to start playing pretty soon.”

Wingspan: What are you expecting from being a college athlete?

Miller: “I’m expecting a lot more work, but a lot of really good, specific workouts and training that I’m going to be able to get just to be able to develop me as a player, athlete, and student.”

Wingspan: How long did it take to make this decision?

Miller: “I went on my visit, and then about three days later called the coach and said I wanted to commit. So it was pretty quick, I knew pretty soon.”  

Wingspan: What other options were you contemplating?

Miller: “I was contemplating walking onto some bigger schools, like A&M or something like that, otherwise I was really just waiting for somebody to offer me and they were the first ones to do it and I thought it was a perfect fit.”

Wingspan: How do you plan to prepare?

Miller: “I’m going to do a lot of work in the off-season. Right now I’m in baseball, so I’ll have to try and do specific workouts around that, but other than that, just to really work in the summer.”

Berdon: “Connors State College.”

Berdon: “It was the only school that offered me.”

Wingspan: What aspects appealed to you?

Berdon: “Good coaching and good facility.”

Wingspan: What are you expecting from being a college athlete?

Berdon: “I expect a lot; to grind.”

Wingspan: How long did it take to make this decision?

Berdon: “A couple weeks.”

Wingspan: What other options were you contemplating?

Berdon: “None.”

Wingspan: How do you plan to prepare?

Berdon: “Training through the summer, through summer team, stuff like that.”

Pearson: “Arkansas at Monticello.”

Wingspan: Why did you choose this school?

Pearson: “I like the team and my friend goes there currently.”

Wingspan: What aspects appealed to you?

Pearson: “It’s a small school so there’s not going to be many distractions.”

Wingspan: What are you expecting from being a college athlete?

Pearson: “It’s going to be tough and really hard work, but I am willing to do the hard work if it means playing for college.”

Wingspan: How long did it take to make this decision?

Pearson: “Maybe a month.”

Wingspan: What other options were you contemplating?

Pearson: “I had one other Division II school and I was emailing a lot of Division II and III schools.”

Wingspan: How do you plan to prepare?

Pearson: “Just practice extra hard.”

Wingspan: What school did you choose?

Wynia: “West Virginia University.”

Wingspan: Why did you choose this school?

Wynia: “It is a Big 12 school and I wanted to play at a level with high competition.”

Wingspan: What aspects appealed to you?

Wynia: “The campus is really beautiful, it’s really nice. It’s a huge college town, and since there’s really only one big college in West Virginia, everyone in the state is a fan.”

Wingspan: What are you expecting from being a college athlete?

Wynia: “A lot of hard work and trying to manage time between studying and working out.”

Wingspan: How long did it take to make this decision?

Wynia: “Probably a good six months.”

Wingspan: What other options were you contemplating?

Wynia: “Wichita State, Rice, and Wake Forest.”   

Wingspan: How do you plan to prepare?

Wynia: “Just working out hard, playing a lot this baseball season, and trying to get better.”
