The basketball teams traveled away from home Tuesday night to compete in a highly anticipated District 9-5A matchup against the undefeated Lone Star Rangers with both teams coming out of their games victorious, ending the Rangers undefeated district seasons.

Having lost to the Rangers earlier this year, the girls’ team earned redemption against the Rangers with a 48-39 win in the last game of district play, leaving the two teams tied for first place. However, a post-game flip left the Rangers as the #1 seed for the playoffs.

“It was such an exciting win for us,” senior Kelsey Kurak said. “It was a really fun game and it gave us great momentum and confidence going into the playoffs.”

Finishing off a successful night, the boys’ team jumped out to an early lead, and added to it in every quarter but the 4th, with senior Zion Richardson leading the team with 34 points.

The win was provided some redemption for the team as Lone Star beat the Redhawks at The Nest by 14 points in January.

“It feels surreal especially that we got our revenge on them,” Richardson said. “But we played great and we did it as a team from coaching all the way down.”
