Hoping to pin down a spot in state, the wrestling team heads to Wakeland to compete in the Region 2-5A championships on Friday and Saturday.

“I’m hoping to win the tournament; placing here will set me up for success at state and that’s what I’m really after,” senior Austin Widner said. “I think that my wrestling has really opened up over the season. I’m shooting a lot more shots and a lot of different shots. Our coach said to wrestle on full auto, and so that’s what I’ve been doing; nonstop action.”

Entering his last regional tournament, Widner hopes to make the most of this weekend.

“I’ve really been trying to just enjoy where I am,” senior Austin Widner said. “This is my last season so I want to make it the best possible and enjoy my last couple weeks of wrestling.”

Competing at the same time are the girls, with senior Savannah West hoping to put all she has worked for to the test.

“I’m feeling really good about regionals; I’ll have some good matches before state and I think our team will be able to take home a trophy,” West said. “I’ve just made sure to really put my all into practice and all my matches since this is my last season. I always remind myself to go all out every time.”
