It’s on to the state meet for seniors Nissi Kabongo, Sanye Ford, Kristen Masucci (pole vault), and freshman Evan Stewart (long jump and triple jump) after top finishes Friday and Saturday at UT Arlington in the Region II-5A meet at Maverick Stadium.

A SFA track commit, Kabongo placed first in high jump with a national record of 5’10” and took the gold in the 800m run with a time of 2:15:77. Kabongo also placed second in her third event of the meet, 300m hurdles finishing in 43.23 seconds.

“My performance across the board was quite impressive to be honest,” she said. “I did what I had to do and had a good meet. I was really focused and the only thing on my mind was to win.”

Alongside her teammate, Ford will also be competing in the state championships after her 18-07.50 long jump landed her a first place medal.

“I was very happy and proud of my performance at Regionals,” Ford said. “I went in with a positive and confident mindset and that really helped me compete well.”
