The boys basketball team went unbeaten in Garland Culwell Center tournament beating Plano East 70-49 in the championship game.

It was a busy weekend for the boys basketball team and the wrestling program.

The girls wrestling team took part in the Coppell Cowgirl Classic, finishing 3rd out of 25 schools while the boys team wrestled at The Nest in the Liberty Throwdown losing to only 6A #2 Arlington Martin to finish 2nd in the tournament.

“We were extremely proud of how the kids competed throughout the day regardless of the score,” head wrestling coach Jason Thurston said. “Our win over Trinity in the semifinals is why wrestling is such an exciting sport. The dual wasn’t decided until Tyler Hogg launched his opponent with a Lat Drop in the closing seconds of the match to get the pin.”

The boys basketball team played top competition this weekend at Garland, defeating 4A #13 Triple A, 6A #7 Allen, and South Garland en route to their 70-49 win over 6A #16 Plano East to clinch the Garland Culwell Center title.

Carter Brown, Trey Curry, and Reggie Chaney were selected to the All-Tournament team, with Brown winning MVP for the tournament.

“The boys played well,” head coach Marcus Eckert said. “They played great defense and I think that was the difference that allowed us to win the tournament. We did a great job of winning the extra possession battle, limiting our turnovers, and doing a great job on the boards.”
