Grade: 11
Future college: University of Oklahoma
Future Job: Music education or Music composition
Years playing clarinet: 6
Inspiration: Her sister

Wingspan: When and why did you start playing clarinet?

Jobe: “I started playing the clarinet in sixth grade, I wanted to play because all my friends were joining band and a lot of my relatives played clarinet as well.”

Wingspan: What is it like to balance school, band, and cheer?

Jobe: “It requires a lot of time and effort to balance everything and you should be dedicated enough in order to do all those things in the first place.”

Wingspan: How is the dynamic different from band different from cheer?

Jobe: “Band is very professional in the way we practice. We practice three out of five days of the school week including games and contests. Cheer is more relaxed and calm, but both programs have the same common goal, which is to improve and be the best we can be.”

Wingspan: What does band mean to you?

Jobe: “Band is like an escape for me. While everything around me is stressful, I’m able to find peace and happiness in creating music, especially with my friends.”

Wingspan: What’s the biggest challenge of being so involved?

Jobe: “The biggest challenge is knowing all the extra stuff I can handle. My whole life I’ve been involved in school and my community that I tend to forget I can only do so much and that I can’t push myself too hard.”

Wingspan: As band has already been quite time consuming on it’s own, what made you want to add cheer on top of your plate?

Jobe: “I loved cheer and band equally, and I couldn’t’ imagine quitting either, so I kind of just took a risk in doing both. Knowing that I’m not the only that has done both before, it makes me more confident.”

Wingspan: What have you learned about yourself through the arts?

Jobe: “I have learned that I’m more creative than I thought and my love for music has dramatically increased.”

Wingspan: What is your advice to anyone who wants in the arts as you?

Jobe: “Don’t be afraid to take a risk in joining the arts even though you may not be completely in love at first, but you might change your mind about the arts later.”
