Guest contributor Joshua Johnson shares his take on Kanye West’s latest studio album: Jesus Is King

Music moves with time as does everything. So with time moving forward, artists have to keep the grind going. But some have stayed a bit quiet, with Kanye West being one of the most obvious.

However, that all changed when he dropped his new album Jesus Is King, which features West diving deep into his “spiritual enlightenment”. But this isn’t the first time he’s focused on religion as he frequently hosts an event called “Sunday Service”.

On Jesus Is King, West pushes his thoughts and opinions of religion through the music  and lyrics of album. He also takes a shift in his traditional music style, possibly suggesting a shift in his public image, as he turns to gospel music, breaking away from his traditional rap flow.

Fans of West may find this tone shift shocking as the album features heavy religious themes and an unusual image of the artist. But while Jesus Is King is unlike anything he has done before, it still is Kanye West.

Depending on how flexible you are with different genres of music or open to religious themes then you might want to give this album a listen. However, fans of West’s traditional work and those unwilling to experience religious themes, then this album isn’t for you.
