Gearing up for the district meet after winter break, the Redhawk swim is taking part in the NTX 5A TISCA Invitational meet Friday and Saturday at the Frisco ISD Bruce Eubanks Natatorium with swimmers from across the state traveling to Frisco for the meet after achieving specific qualifying times.
“I am so excited about the meet this weekend,” head swim coach Mary Kilgore said via email. “I expect many of our swimmers to place top eight in their events to qualify for the A final Saturday. I am confident that I will see swimmers achieve personal best times this weekend after all their hard work since August.”
After swimming in three events at the state championship last school year, junior Mallory Showalter believes the TISCA meet will help the team prepare.
“This just is a really big meet so it’ll get us prepared for our competitions since there are people from all over the state coming,” Showalter said. “This will get us accompanied to other people and racing other people.”
Competing in the facility the Redhawks practice in, senior Hannah Nguyen believes there is a benefit to being familiar with the pool.
“I think there is an advantage because we get to practice a lot with our blocks, and each pool has a different kind of block set up,” Nguyen said. “I think we’re more comfortable doing dives and exchanges off of them so it definitely helps.”
