Redhawks tame the Lions

Liberty trumped McKinney High 28-0 Friday night with strong play on both sides of the ball.

Senior quarterback Udgam Goyal led scoring efforts with two rushing touchdowns, one from five yards and another from nine yards out. Goyal had a total of 68 rushing yards on 11 attempts in the game.

The Redhawk passing attack was also much improved in the second week of the season, as Goyal was 8 of 19 through the air for 116 total yards. On the receiving end, seniors Garrett Locke and Lyric Green led all receivers with three catches for 67 yards and two catches for 29 yards, respectively.

Junior Reggie Hubbard led the rushing attack with 136 yards and one touchdown on 23 carries.

The Liberty defense turned in one of the best performances in recent years, shutting out the Lions through all four quarters. Liberty forced four fumbles and recovered three of them. Senior Romello McCollum intercepted a McKinney pass and returned it 94 yards for a touchdown.

Liberty plays Independence High School next Friday at Toyota Stadium.
