The Wizard of Oz

When it comes down to my all time favorite movies, this is the one movie that I’ve always circled back to. It’s the first movie I ever remember watching, and it has some funny history to it when it comes to my family.

This is the movie that helped inspire my college essays and a big factor into what I want to do with my life, even before I knew what that thing was. This movie that has such a special place in my heart is The Wizard of Oz

The Wizard of Oz was released on August 25th, 1939. The wonderful Judy Garland played a young girl named Dorothy Gale who was struggling at home with her family and some of the people in her town. However, after an enormous tornado, somehow Dorothy and her dog Toto are found in a place that seemed to be known as Oz.

She then meets a witch, a good witch though, named Glinda who tells Dorothy exactly where she is and how she can make it home. Dorothy, and Toto of course, are sent to find the Great and Powerful Wizard in Emerald City, because they are told he is the only one who can get her home to Kansas. On her journey, she meets a wide range of individuals, ranging from a scarecrow, to a tinman, and to a lion.

After facing obstacles and tribulations on the journey, including an evil witch and some flying monkeys, Dorothy learned a valuable lesson that we hear time and time again, even 80 years later, and that’s that there’s “no place like home”.

So yes, I may be biased towards this movie because of the history it has with my family, but it doesn’t take away the nearly perfect percentage on Rotten Tomatoes (98% to be exact), or the 8 out of 10 on IMDb

This movie is a classic, and has shaped so much of the film industry to this day. So, if you chose to listen to any of my movie suggestions at all, this is the one movie I want you to listen to.
