Mowery: “I started playing tennis around 7-years-old.”

Wingspan: Who encouraged you to start playing?

Mowery: “My mom and aunt both encouraged me to play tennis.”

Wingspan: What is the hardest part about tennis?

Mowery: “The hardest part about tennis is the small details. The smallest details make a big impact on your performance.”

Wingspan: What’s your favorite part about playing tennis?

Mowery: “My favorite part about playing tennis is how independent it can be. You only rely on yourself.”

Wingspan: Who is your biggest role model?

Mowery: “My biggest role model is my first tennis coach. He knows me extremely well and always encourages me.”

Wingspan: What is one thing people think about tennis that isn’t actually true?

Mowery: “One thing that is not true about tennis is the lack of athleticism it takes. Running back and forth on the court can take a lot of energy out of the players.”

Wingspan: Do you have any superstitions?

Mowery: “My main superstition is if I don’t have a certain meal before a match, I won’t play as well.”

Wingspan: Do you have a pre match routine?

Mowery: “Before every match, I have to drink Pedialyte so I don’t pass out.”

Wingspan: How has tennis shaped who you are as a person?

Mowery: “Altogether, tennis has shaped me to be a very patient and independent person on and off the court.”
