For the first time in school history the volleyball team has a new head coach. Coach Oberle is starting his first year in FISD from Decator.

Since the school opened in 2006, it had only known one volleyball coach, Ui Womble. Last year, Womble broke the news that she was transferring to Wakeland High School to work with her husband.

The head coaching spot was filled by Clark Oberle, who came from Decatur High School.

“I knew very little about Liberty at first,” Oberle said. “I knew they had a good volleyball program, but that’s about it.”

Knowing about the volleyball team on the court, Oberle wanted to know more about the school as a whole.

After talking to the administrators, some of the coaches and some coaches who had worked here in the past, I knew it would be a great place to work,” Oberle said.

Having a coaching shift her senior year, Caitlyn Brown, says there’s a difference in the coaching styles between Womble and Oberle.

“Coach Oberle is introducing us to many new drills that help me work on my personal goals,” Brown said. “Some of them I’ve never done before. The team has also done a lot more weight room and conditioning. Coach oberle focuses on different aspects of the game, and it’s interesting to see the different coaching styles.”
