The football team took on Lake Dallas Friday night and earned themselves their 4th District 9- 5A win (63-21).

2020 has been a reversal of fortunes for the football team. Less than a year removed from going 1-9 in 2019, the Redhawks improved to 4-1 on the year after beating Lake Dallas 63-21 on Friday to move to 3-0 in District 7-5A.

One of the biggest things was our fast start,” head football coach Matt Swinnea said via email.

“We have been preaching to both sides of the ball the need to get out of the gate quickly.  Scoring on the first offensive snap and then subsequently getting a scoop and score on defense really set the tone for the night.  Momentum was firmly on our side for the start.”

Even though the season is at its halfway point, the team isn’t planning on slowing their practices.

“Even though we put up a ton of points and played much better on defense,” Swinnea said. “We still have a long way to go with regards to our execution.  Fundamentals, like blocking and tackling, as well as alignment and assignment, are always things we can improve on.”
