It was a busy day on the courts as both boys’ and girls’ basketball were both back in action for the first time since last season.

The boys started their preseason off with a 67-55 win against 6A Prosper High School Saturday afternoon.

“I feel great,” senior Myson Huff said.” “We started the season off with a W against a good team. Usually when you start off with a loss to a team your team’s energy can go in the gutter. So I’m glad we won and I believe the energy we have now can translate to further games.”

Agreeing with Huff, head coach Stephen Friar, said it felt good to win, but they are still trying to improve before district play starts in December.

“It felt good to get a win,” Friar said. “But we have to keep it in perspective. Our goal is to get 1 percent better every day, and go 1-0 every time we play. We try to accentuate the good things and lock in on that which we need to improve on.”

The girls’ team also took on a 6A school, the number one team in the state, Duncanville High School

“Playing a team like Duncanville helps prepare for districts by showing us that the other teams aren’t gonna go easy on us,” sophomore Natalie Wilson said. “As the reigning state champions we have to expect people to be ready to play hard and not go down without a fight. The score ended up being 69-29, with Duncanville winning. Although it was a tough loss, everyone worked extremely hard and gave it their all.”
