Bringing their season to an end, the Redhawks fell to McKinney North 3-0 (27-25, 25-23, 25-22) at Hebron High School in the first game of the playoffs on the Friday before break (Nov. 20).

“All three sets were very close and we were competitive in every one of them,” head coach Clark Oberle said via email.

Though the team did not advance as far as it had hoped, they feel they still played fairly well given the current circumstances.

“I expected us to make it to playoffs,” junior Lauryn Hill said via text. “We let some games get away that we shouldn’t have and district placement could have been different. It was tough to wrap up the season because that is not how we planned but next year we will just have to come out stronger.”

Though the loss hurt the team’s spirit, they feel it will not be a deciding factor for how they play in years to come.

“I don’t think this will affect [underclassmen] too much but we all have to understand that winning doesn’t just happen, you have to work for it,” Hill said.

In his first year leading the team, Oberle says the team was able to put forth their best efforts and is excited for years to come after experiencing all the district has to offer.

“The coaching staff and athletes were all very welcoming.” Oberle said. “I learned a lot about not only Liberty volleyball but the opponents in our district. Next season we will be much more prepared and experienced.”

Clark believes this loss will also help motivate them to outperform themselves next season.

“This 1st round loss should motivate us to work hard this off season and summer and be prepared to come in more focused for 2021,” Oberle said. “My hopes for the future are to again make the playoffs and have a longer playoff run next season.”
