As films will come out one way or another, the movie theater industry may not make it through to see the end of the pandemic.

2020 has been a year of theatrical danger and disappointment. Due to COVID, many highly anticipated films have been delayed with their future uncertain. However, due to recent announcements, news about many upcoming releases has finally been given. It seems that, at least for 2021, movie theaters are being replaced by home theaters.

For Disney, Pixar’s Soul will be released to Disney+ on Christmas day. In addition, there are several Marvel Studios shows that will be streaming in 2021, including Loki, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Wandavision

In a controversial announcement, all of Warner Bros. films from this year and several from next will be arriving directly to HBO Max, with Wonder Woman 84 streaming on HBO Max Christmas Day. Although this means that general audiences will finally get to view the films, the sudden and unexpected announcement took even the creators of the films off-guard, many commenting that they had no say in letting their films go straight to streaming.

Unfortunately, while almost all of the delayed films are expected to make a debut in one way or another, the movie theater industry might not survive if films coming straight to streaming becomes standard practice.
